Many dogs seem to understand "small humans" as human puppies. Way back, I grew up with a dog that periodically produced puppies. That dog allowed neighborhood children play with the puppies and dress them in doll clothes [as long as they were not out of sight for too long]. That dog sort of operated a lending library for puppies. A neighborhood toddler wandered into the yard and sat among the "other" puppies with out incident until the father showed up, at which point the dog tried to kill him to protect all the "puppies". I had to scamper out back to retrieve the human puppy since even my Mother was then considered as a threat. Once the father held his child, the dogs threat display ended. It was clearly her duty to protect all the "puppies" in her theater of operations. Sometimes they understand too much. They become one of the family since they act like one of the family and understand their place in the pack order. It is hard to tell if humans civilized dogs or if dogs civilized humans.
Who believes that an animal shares the same biology with the human being is missing the discernment. Can't sterilize (kill the animal bacterias and pathogens) to make it safe. ... even the brain itself, not only the mind is modified in a bad way, too. Love it when you lost the resources to love the people.
Some of my best memories of my early teen years are lying on the couch, dog curled up with me as I read the latest issue of Analog Science Fiction. These days, I like to sit in my recliner, reading Aviation Week, while my cat Bella snores on my lap, a smile on her face. Thank you for posting the cute picture!
Going to become one well adjusted adult if life carries on like that.

That made no coherent sense to me.
