It's not funny when it happens to you, huh?

Representative Andrew Clyde (R-GA-09) this month shared how Internal Revenue Service (IRS) agents violated him and his rights several years ago, and he proposed new ways for the agency to reform itself.

Clyde made his remarks at a House Oversight and Reform Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties hearing.

The congressman said IRS agents seized more than $940,000 of his in 2013 — without warning and without ever charging him with a crime.

  1. Yeah, but ...

He's proposing legislation to add yet another level of oversight to an inherently corrupt agency. Like that's going help. What should be done is that each and every one of the IRS agents that handled that case get fired, get prosecuted (for something, hell, make it up if you have to), and then their bosses get fired, and the head of the IRS impeached, fired, prosecuted, convicted, and jailed. And any and all political cronies too. And their family. And their dog, too.

Then burn down the building and salt the earth.

Nothing will change until people start going to jail and/or the funeral home.

    1. ^^^^ This. Then repeal the civil asset forfeiture law completely. This law is in direct violation of the Fourth and Fourteenth Amendments, probably others as well. No one should have to forfeit property unless they have been convicted of a crime DIRECTLY associated with property in question.

Otherwise it has been and will remain a license to steal for all levels of .gov.

  2. Wait until the IRS sees that you write your monthly mortgage check of FAR more than the $600 limit they consider "he must be a billionaire not paying taxes".

  3. In his defense, he's local here in my neck of the woods and very down to earth. When he campaigned, all of his posters had him pictured with an AR in hand, I'm told to piss off the left. I haven't heard too much negative about him so I'm not surprised that someone like him felt the need to put the reins on the IRS.

  4. Yeah, but give him his due - he's already gotten legislation passed to constrain this corrupt practice and this testimony is for new legislation to do even more to clamp down on it. Good on him. At least he's doing something constructive. Of course, that might be the reason he's been eased out of his seat and is now fighting for his political life.

  5. His lawyers cost him us$150,000 to get the illegal seizure partially reversed.
    .
Without admitting guilt, the government agents returned only us$900,000 of the original us$940,000... giving no reason for their intentional 'over-sight'.

Another starry-eyed believer in the system, Clyde ran for office, and is a U.S. representative.

Some say this's a good time to wipe the slate clean, a good time to start over.

    PS:
Some say the 16th was never ratified, leading to an automatic nullification of organizations such as Internal Revenue Service government agents.

    1. Extortion under color of official right:
      .
This is obtaining property under color of official right.
It is the wrongful taking by a public officer of money or property not due to him or his office with or without force, threats, or use of fear.

  7. Michigan has a new law, signed in 2019, by the Empress of Lansing, which requires a conviction for civil asset forfeiture. The one exception is that if the amount is over 50,000$, then they can supposedly take the money and property, not counting the illegal items, such as the kilo of cocaine, or whatever.
Why they wrote it that way, I can guess pretty easily, but at least it is a start.

  8. I never saw such an inept bunch in my life. First there was an error in our H&R Block-done taxes, and it took them over a year to figure out they owed us $1600.00 of our money, not $2000.00.
Next letter IRS telling us we didn't file taxes for the year in question.
    WTF?!

  9. Just drove by his store today. He is a good guy. Ran for office because he wanted to change this stupid crap. He's definitely one of us, for now.

    1. Where's his store at? Didn't know he had a business. Might have to patronize it as a show of support for him.
