About 30 years ago, had a friend who took someone else's car home.
We were at a night club in Atlanta and he got asked to leave for being loud and obnoxious. So we took him out to his vehicle, got the keys from him so he couldn't drive off and went back in the club. Later we came out and he was nowhere to be found. We looked all over the place to make sure he hadn't passed out somewhere. After 20 minutes of searching, we figured he caught a cab. So we went home and found a strange car parked in front of the house.
Evidently, he had got out of the truck to take a leak and got turned around/lost. So he just got into the nearest unlocked car, found the keys above the visor and drove it home.
It was a VW Square back station wagon. We all got up the next morning and got his story. So we went out and checked the glove box for the registration and an address to find out who the owner was and hopefully talk them out of a prosecution for car theft.
To this day, I still can't believe he made it home safe, as drunk as he was, without getting stopped. The club was in Dekalb County, not to far from the sheriff's department.
