Another has-been takes a stand

Joni Mitchell has pledged to remove her music from Spotify, just a few days after fellow singer-songwriter icon Neil Young did the same.

*****

Good riddance. I never really liked her even when she was popular. Her most memorable moment was when she did the background vocals for her bestie Neil Young when he sang 'Helpless' on The Band's movie 'The Last Waltz'.

  1. Neil will still Walk like a Giant even if he is a bit overboard on wokeness. I liked Trump's governance but he all by himself also earned a lot of disrespect with his personal mannerisms. WE are all flawed. IMO Joe should has stayed with Fear Factor (still in syndication) as there is a lot of fear now; & he's spreading some of it. And WTF is Spotify? Is it even necessary?

    1. Rogan is providing a way for voices of dissent from establishment propaganda and disinformation to be heard. That is not "spreading fear" except among those who want to control us.
Spotify is a platform for podcasts of all kinds, especially those that the tech oligarchs censor at the behest of our would-be overlords. Music is secondary to their business model.
And yes, in this time of suppression of free speech it is necessary.

    2. Spotify, through the Joe Rogan show, is doing a public service by putting forth information that is countering the current propaganda that is so prevalent. It may not be known by many older people, but it is well known to younger generations who need to hear alternative views. What we don't need are old, washed up entertainers who help spread the lies of their overlords.

    3. He’s spreading fear? How? I agree we are all flawed, including Joe Rogan; hopefully you actually listen to the show and have some basis for what you are saying, before you say it.

    4. 'a bit overboard on wokeness'. No - he's completely overboard on self importance, another word for 'woke'. "Is Spotify even necessary ?" Do you think that you, personally should decide what other people should be allowed to choose for themselves? Neil does. He made an ultimatum, with the idea that he not only could decide what is fit for consumption for everyone, but that he didn't have to make a convincing or persuasive counter-argument for his own beliefs. Mind you, we're not discussing policy decisions; we're talking about a talk show - and Neil's objections are that the Opinions voiced on this Opinion show are not the same as his. And instead of offering examples and speaking to disprove them, he stamps his foot. He's a doddering fool, in other words - but that's not unusual for these times. Guess what? I decide what I want to listen to. And if I decide I don't like it, I turn it off. I think it would be good if more people took this approach.

  6. She and that other ass hat made MILLIONS writing and singing protest songs in the 70's. Funny how a lot of cash changes your perspective.

Don't let the door hit you in ass on the way out Joani. Not to mention, Rogan's got a ton more followers than you ever will.

  7. I'd like to see Rogan's before and after follower numbers, since Joni and asshat made their stand. The thing that they fail to understand, and that pretty much applies to all leftists, is the more they publicize dissenting opinions to someone they're trying to cancel, more people find and follow the opinions they're trying to cancel.

Leftists are smart, said no one ever.

  8. I listen to Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, and Joe Rogan, but that's as far as it goes.
I don't look to them for advice on living.

Some funny comments from others on this kerfuffle :

" I mean, just look at the logo. Which part of this primes in you an expectation of reliable medical advice ?"

And in other news, Yoko Ono threatened to ADD her "music" to Spotify if Joe Rogan wasn't removed.

  9. As Aaron Rogers put it: When in the course of human history has the side that’s doing the censoring and trying to shut people up and make them show papers and marginalize a part of the community ever been [the correct side]?

It is never the right thing to give into bullies like Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, or Harry and Meghan.

  10. Funny thing is that IMO the best music came from that era. That said, there are exceptions to everything and Joni was at the top of that list. Pity I won't be able to not listen to her...

  11. Joni Mitchell should just shut up and sing.

    Neil Young? Just shut up.

  14. I gotta admit I like some of Youngs music, and very little of Joni Mitchell's.
I could give a fuck for either's political views
As for Joe Rogan, I've heard of him, but the real star here is Dr. Robert Malone.
I've been following him nearly two years now, and he's spot on about what our government is doing to us.

  15. Starker here,

First they are both Canadians, they can practice socialism all they want up north under Castro.

I have this love hate thing with Neil Young. So now I hate him again. He was a big proponent of hearing dissenting views. His career was made from it. Now he attacks those that are doing the same "counter the norm" culture.

Both of them want to silence views dissenting from the empowered norm.

F'n hypocrites, or is that Hippo-Crats, meaning Fat Democrats!

Buffalo Springfield Mr. Soul. The rhyming drives me up a wall.

As for Joni, who I remember being "Counter Culture" is quoted as saying,

the parents of baby-boomers were unhappy, "out of it came this liberated, spoiled, selfish generation into the costume ball of free love, free sex, free music, free, free, free, free we're so free. And Woodstock was the culmination of it." But "I was not a part of that," she explained in an interview. "I was not a part of the anti-war movement, either."

So who doesn't know "Big Yellow Taxi"? Maybe some think the name of it is "They Put up a Parking Lot"?

I Do practice what they supposedly were supporting,
Freedom of Thought & Expression of those thoughts.
The U.S. Constitution guarantees that any person has the right to say what they want, but, I don't have to listen. (Not arguing what fits Defamation.)

Even George Carlin ran afoul of his own words, as do these two.

“The FCC, the Federal Communications Commission, decided all by itself that radio and television were the only two parts of American life not protected by the free speech provisions of the first amendment to the Constitution. I'd like to repeat that, because it sounds... *vaguely* important! The FCC, an appointed body, not elected, answerable only to the president, decided on its own that radio and television were the only two parts of American life not protected by the first amendment to the Constitution. Why did they decide that? Because they got a letter from a minister in Mississippi! A Reverend Donald Wildman in Mississippi heard something on the radio that he didn't like. Well, Reverend, did anyone ever tell you there are two KNOBS on the radio? Two. Knobs. On the radio. Of course, I'm sure the reverend isn't that comfortable with anything that has two knobs on it. But hey, reverend, there are two knobs on the radio! One of them turns the radio OFF, and the other one [slaps his head] CHANGES THE STATION! Imagine that, reverend, you can actually change the station! It's called freedom of choice, and it's one of the principles this country was founded upon. Look it up in the library, reverend, if you have any of them left when you've finished burning all the books.”

    — George Carlin

  16. I’ve listened to all that music and determined more than 40 years ago that ninety percent of them are fellow travelers. If you are surprised, you just haven’t been paying attention. And no, they don’t really give a shit about the common man, never have and never will. They are Alinski-ites and followers of Marx, Gramski and Cloward and Piven. Eod1sg Ret

  23. Paid to see this wench years ago. It was the worst concert I've ever attended. She was slurring drunk and forgot the words to her own song. Pitiful. People left in droves.

  24. I always had a soft spot for her as she didn't protest the war in Viet Nam, but rather went and played for the troops there. I'm glad that she survived her illness of a few years ago, but it obviously addled her mind. Tremendous talent...

  25. Right there with you. I've never heard of her either. She won't be missed.
