A California Highway Patrol officer “escaped relatively unscathed” after an apparently angry cow tried to toss him into the air in a rural part of the state, officials said.
The scary moments were captured by the officer’s dash camera. CHP’s Susanville division uploaded the video to its Facebook page two days before Christmas.
Back in the fifties by brother, who was about twelve, was gored three times in the stomach and thrown over a four strand barbwire fence. My mother did not believe in doctors and treated him at home with hot Empson salt packs and other home remedies. How he lived I'll never know. His guts were not hanging out but he is in his eighties and carries the scars to this day. We had a large Dairy. He was a farm boy not some greenhorn.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't surprise me. Why do you think you've lived so long, and maintained your health like an old bear? Luck? I think not. Ohio Guy
DeleteThis, sorta bovine related ...
ReplyDeleteSaw a Jeep with 'cow horns' installed on front grille, ala old Texas Oil / Rancher depiction. Horns about two and half feet, tip to tip. Funny thing though - the horns were installed backwards, with horns sweeping to the rear of hood. Looked stupid as hell - Have you ever even seen a real live bull / cow ?

ReplyDeleteAfter a recent encounter between a wayward bovine and a local CHP officer I had the opportunity to ask a couple of them (officers, not beeves) if they received any kind of training or tips as to how to handle livestock, either at the academy or afterwards. Basically, the answer I got was "When we want your opinion, we'll ask for it".
ReplyDeletecareer training in handling heifers?

Helped the CHP a few times around here getting beef cattle back into pastures. They were fairly good at it. Susanville area has a lot of open range. Cattle get a little more feisty out there.
