Yeah, let's focus on the big problems here - turnstile jumping

NEW YORK - The city is still reeling from Michelle Alyssa Go’s death, sending shock waves across all five boroughs and bringing elevated attention to the state of crime across the transit system.

At least fifty-six New Yorkers have been pushed onto subway tracks over the past two years.

Subway crimes have more than doubled, so far, this year, compared with the same time last year.

According to MTA board member Andrew Albert, another major issue is turnstile jumping.

  1. The mayor is begging for federal help. Guns are a big problem. They banned them, but they still get in. Something must be done. Evn if its done somewhere else, at least we won't have to admit we were wrong!

  2. Yeah, it’s because people aren’t paying their “fair share”. Jesus H, NYC deserves what they’re getting for electing these assholes.

  3. Yeah, they are not worrying about the victims because they likely paid their fares. I mean, let's talk about what is really important, after all.

  4. Well, sure. Shoving a person onto the tracks is only a crime against that person. Jumping the turnstile is a crime against the government. So, of course, the government cares more about turnstile jumping.

  5. Giuliani stopped the turnstile jumpers and- lo and behold- they had warrants out on them for other crimes.

  6. "99.99% of people that are committing crimes in the subways did not pay their fare." So...you're saying criminals are the ones who commit crimes? Hmm. This can head to the 'make everyone a criminal' direction, or 'common sense' they like to claim to have while completely ignoring it...might say to focus on criminals vs. blaming inanimate objects like firearms for the problems.

  7. Well you brainiacs should look back a couple of decades.

NY had a successful crime reduction by basically a zero tolerance approach.

And yes a big focus was turnstile jumping. These same people often had outstanding warrants, drugs or illegal firearms etc.

  8. Turnstile jumping is a BIG problem. Under Giuliani, he advocated "broken window" policing. Turnstile jumping gave the cops probable cause to detain and arrest the wrongdoers. When turnstile jumpers were arrested, they often had illegal drugs and weapons on them. He cleaned up NYC by this policy. Bloomberg continued the policy for 3 additional mayoral terms and the City was the safest when handed over to asshat deBlasio. DeBlasio's laissez-faire policing, "bail reform," and lack of prosecution let crime soar. If the cops were allowed to do their jobs, and the DAs and courts would enforce the laws, NYC would again be the safest large city out there.

  9. Turnstile jumpers not paying their fair share. (There's a phrase K. Marx would be proud of.)

But let's pay off everyone's college loans.

  10. Missing the obvious:
    .
The common thread through each story -- New York city.
To permanently cure the problem, eliminate the city.
