The video-enhanced, complete DVD of ELP at Olympic Stadium, Montreal, Quebec, Canada was live on the Orchestral Tour August 26, 1977, following the album releases of Works Vol. 1 and Works Vol. 2. The 70-piece symphony orchestra conducted by Godfrey Salmon was used only once during ELP's tour due to its high cost. "The Enemy God Dances with the Black Spirits" was composed by Sergei Prokofiev, arranged by Emerson, Lake, Palmer.
The live album was packaged as "Emerson, Lake and Palmer In Concert" and "Works Live." The historic concert was ELP's pinnacle performance at the height of their musical career. Never again equaled, the progressive rock group broke up three years later in 1979. Keith Emerson and Greg Lake died in 2016 RIP.
I was expecting some Neil Young this evening...
ReplyDeleteActually, they did most of their Works tour with the orchestra. Isaw them all 3 nights at Madison Square Garden. Amazing sound, every instrument in the orchestra was mic'd !
ReplyDeleteOne night Keith played Nutrock twice...
Good times, good smoke too.
Thank you, I have not heard some of these for a while. IF they get played on the radio, it is always the same couple of songs..Lucky Man or parts of Fanfare for the Common Man.
ReplyDeleteI used to listen to ELP a lot when I was in HS and they really need to be played loud.
If you like ELP it is worth going on YouTube and searching for Rachael Flowers. She is a multi instrumentalist but plays mainly keyboards and does quite a lot of Emerson's stuff. She was born prematurely and has been blind almost from birth. She is an amazing talent.
ReplyDeleteELP was one of my favorite bands in high school. I still listen quite a bit. They were the only Prog Rock band that I really got into.
DeleteI just watched some Rachael Flowers. Very cool. She did Montana with Dweezil Zappa. Good stuff!
Their first album is one of my all time favorites and a sound reference for any new stereo system.
ReplyDeleteI'm deaf now, but I can still hear it in my head.
