San Francisco police used DNA from rape kit to arrest victim, DA says

San Francisco’s police chief said Monday that he is investigating claims by the city’s district attorney that DNA collected from rape victims is being used to help identify them as possible suspects in crimes.

  1. So if neither the DA nor the po-leece chief authorized the investigations, who did? In the case of the chief, he is kind of responsible for training and actions of his subordinates. This could end a great number of voluntary rape evidence gathering, assuming doctors are required to ask before utilizing a rape test. SF has some stupids all around.

    1. There were two sets of DNA on the swab. Both are analysed. Both are labeled.

  2. Be assured that women rapists who leave their sperm at the scene of the crime will never be prosecuted.

  3. “She shows a total inability to follow a court’s order”. She seems to have plenty of ability, they're just providing no reason to follow it. Why bother if they're just going to keep letting you out? I really have to wonder if this mindset and self-justification is what led some cultures to remove a hand for such offenses.

  4. Interesting moral dilemma (not really). A crime victim provides the means to identify the current victim as also a criminal, either before or after the fact.

In other words, the crime committed against YOU makes you special so you get a pass on being identified as the perpetrator of a crime against someone else. Is there a hierarchy? If you're raped, do you get a pass on burglary but not murder?

Nope. Either this is allowed, or most -perhaps all- DNA (and fingerprint?) data must be excluded from use.

  5. And don't forget....those ancestry DNA groups are now being used by the police as another resource.

  6. So a woman raped long ago comitted a recent crime, left DNA and got caught?
I'm not in favor of giving a criminal a free pass because they are also a victim.
So some woman comitted a crime and got away, then she gets raped. She has a choice, risk being discovered for her old crime, assuming she left DNA or accept being raped as punishment for her previous crime.
A mountain of criminals are illegals. There are moments when I think we should be like Mexico and say that if you are here illegally, you are not a victim but an accessory.
