I had a couple of cracks in my credit card and requested a new card. They sent me a 'touchless' credit card or RFID card. I refused to use it and called them. They say that the 'new' touchless or no-contact cards are the only cards they are sending out now. Something else that they are shoving down our throats. Well, it's possible to drill through the card and cut the thin wire that is the antenna and disable the no-contact function. And if I don't get it right the first time then they can send me another until I get it right.
It used to be a feature the bank could enable or disable. I had to get one of mine turned on, so I know its possible. If there's no contact, how do they "read" the card for other uses?
The info is encoded in both the magnetic stripe and the RFID chip embedded in the card. RFID is completely passive. The EM field generated by the card reader powers the chip, so there’s nothing to turn on or off.
I buy store made pies for deserts. They are made in AL pie plates. I made a little folder to put my credit card in for just this purpose out of the bottom of one of those pie plates.
I was wrapping the RFID cards I had in an RF blocking sleeve when I still had my old wallet. When it came time to replace it I got an RF-blocking wallet. It looks like a regular leather wallet but it does block RF quite well. (Yes, I tested it before I trusted it.)
#10 if you are bench pressing a big weight you need a couple of guys spotting for you in case you can't lift it. Seriously, who doesn't know this? Well that guy obviously.

I used to work in a steel fabrication shop, used to have to walk out large beams and assemblies through the doors. When we had to go across the yard and go over the cars, the office staff would line up to the windows. Had a couple go move their nicer cars.
Interesting. I have Visa & MC and neither allows the wave action to pay. I've tried it but maybe it was the particular terminal I tried it on. Hmmm. Darn sure hope it doesn't allow that. Ever since the PC came out, every piece of technology has included a way to get screwed along with it.
I also complained when my card company sent me a "touchless" card. They said there was no longer a choice. For years I just kept them well wrapped in heavy-duty aluminum foil. I now have an RFID blocking wallet and RF blocking checkbook. The prices have come way down on these the last few years. Yes, I did test them at work to maker sure they did indeed block the card readers.
5. You got some serious air Pedro.

ReplyDeleteWe all need a shielded wallet.

Fuck corporate America.
I'll pass on those type cards. Saw that shit coming a mile away.
DeletePS - I can't pay for anything with my phone either. Screw all that nonsense, how hard is it to put a card through or into a a pay terminal.

Delete#2 why you need to upgrade your wallet against card readers. Rfid-Blocking Technology For Wallets, it's a thing.

DeleteJust don't have those cards.
DeletePretty sure my bank doesn't give me a choice of what kind of card I get, Kid.

ReplyDeleteAdd the Bubba Special incline bench. If that fell apart as was happening there, he’d have dropped that bar on himself.
