Ducks and/or geese are what a lot of cow dog trainers start their pupils out on. It's lots of fun and a must for the new stock dog owner, even if they don't own livestock. If you can find a great trainer you'll never regret the experience and your dog will be all the better for it.
I spent a year on a large 6000 acre cattle and sheep ranch near hulett Wyoming, we had a dozen collies trained like that, amazing animals. I picked up a blue heeler pup and literally tossed the lil pup into the dog room with the collies, and from that day he ran and learned with them that tiny dog turned into a fantastic cow dog.
I remember going down 680 something like 55 years ago and an old man was standing in a pasture along the freeway signaling by raising his hand. About a 1/4 mile on down was a flock of sheep being rounded up by several dogs. Now that is all houses.
Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteNo pressure, ZERO mistakes. Those are three great dogs and a mighty fun family of people to be in. Well done!
Can they herd leftists?
ReplyDeleteFeet first into a wood chipper?
DeleteMost entertaining and uplifting thing I have seen all year, the dogs are the stars, but those kids and their dad are super!
ReplyDeleteDecades ago, when I was on the Isle of Lewis, I spent hours watching them work border collies. Except they were using sheep, not geese.
