Yikes !!! The wearer could sure take a punch. Battleground observation: "Look, Francoise, Pierre took one in the chest armor" "Are you sure that jelly is Pierre?"
No eye protection for the shooter for added historic accuracy! Amazing how slow motion makes those flintlocks look like sloppy fire-breathing dragons. Wonder what the original builders would have done differently if they'd had the chance to see their lock-work in slow-motion?
I have an old flintlock rifle. It's been awhile since I've shot it, but when you take it to the range, the first shot you touch off gets everyone's attention. You have to make sure there is nobody to your immediate right. That touch-hole will blow sparks at least six feet.
Does anyone know what that thing is that's hovering over on the right, just above the barrel? I've shot these things and I have no clue.
Now show the one with the cannon ball.....

DeleteWay cool video. THAT is getting shown to my American Military History class on Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteOuch.
ReplyDeleteHence the term "Proof Mark". A dent in a suit of armor proving it had stopped a lead ball.

The first flintlock that I fired was in slow motion, when the next guy fired it it wasn't.
DeleteHella long lock time...
ReplyDeleteOld school.
