Filling a gas-powered vehicle may still be cheaper than charging an electric one

Many electric cars owners have been reveling in their purchases as gasoline prices reach record highs.

The national average for a gallon of gas hit $4.25 on Wednesday, up from $4.17 the day before, and it is expected to rise as the fallout of economic sanctions levied on Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine continues to trickle through the petroleum industry.

U.S. electricity prices, which are heavily regulated in most states, have remained stable, however, and the cost to charge an electric car is still much lower than filling up one with an internal combustion engine, but only if you have a place to plug it in at home or a lot of time on your hands.

  1. The solution to high gasoline prices is just buy an electric car.

The solution to homelessness is just go buy yourself a home

  2. Saw my first commercial charging stations at a turnpike rest stop in a neighboring state last year. There were 5 out of 5 charging stations in use with another 2-3 cars waiting. I was on my way to camp. When I saw that spectacle, I was wondering how I would ever get to camp in an electric vehicle. It's out in the middle of nowhere. The closest town, which has 2 gas stations AND NO PUBLIC CHARGING STATIONS, is 15 miles away. I usually fill up at the camp end before starting back. My vehicle has enough range that I could do a round trip without filling up before starting back, but I'm on fumes when I get to my residence with the low gas warning light burning bright.

  3. Starker here,

Does anyone remember when Cali went after people making Bio-Diesel for not paying highway taxes?
Who is paying highway taxes on the electric these EVs are using?

How can you compare a fuel that has a highway tax with one that isn't?

    Asking for a friend.

Here is the PA 2017 info on taxes per gallon. Pa is 2nd highest after Cali.

    Tax Type Gas Diesel
    Federal Tax Rate $0.184 $0.244
    OilCo Franchise Tx $0.582 $0.747
UG Stor Tank Fund $0.011 $0.011

    TOTAL—PA only: $0.593 $0.758

    GRAND TOTAL: $0.777 $1.020

  5. Makes sense to have the option of a trailered generator that runs on moonbeam fuel, just in case there's no place around to plug in.
Or you don't want to hang around for hours waiting to charge up.
And how much do those charging stations cost per volt?
This whole thing is one of the most ludicrous performances ever put on by a government of once free people.
