  1. I saw the same thing happen at a range a few years ago. A double load of, I believe, Red Dot powder in a .38 Super. That's when I learned the value of a good pair of safety glasses. His were scarred with shrapnel. The cuts on his face and arms were minor, but anything that hit his eyes would have done major damage.

    1. I Second double charge. Three reports, three dings. Smoke on third shot is visibly more dense. Glad he had eyes and ears on. Would have been even better if he didn't break the 180 rule. Excellent learning opportunity for the real possibility of a double charge when reloading. Could happen to anyone. Throw away that barrel and drop in a new one though, it's compromised.

  2. Plugged barrel after the first shot? Notice the shot sound difference between one and two.

  4. Squib load!

Seen this happen. During training I watched a guy blow up two guns using shitty reloads.....

  5. And yet, it could've been worse. But dayyum!

  6. Don't do reloads iffin you don't know for sure what you're doin. Don't shoot ammo that you're not absolutely sure were loaded correctly and know for sure your weapon can handle the load. It's like smoking a cig in a house with a gas leak. You wouldn't do that...would you?

    1. "I should be able to get one more reload out of this case before ........"

  7. The way that casing came apart, I suspect it discharged out of battery.

  8. Liked that he turned it into a “teaching moment”-this is why you wear glasses

  9. Not a squib load. Three shots, three dings…

  10. Sounded to me like it fired out of battery. The only difference to my ears was the sound of the third shot.

    1. I agree, likely out of battery. The sound and the smoke cloud were different.

    1. Yup. Probably trying to make Major power with a 9mm or .38 Super.

  12. But the reloads I bought were really cheap!

  13. There is an easy back-check when you reload, if you're using the kind of powder and cartridge that could inadvertently allow a double charge to be loaded: Weigh your finished rounds. It's not that much extra time when you have a good quality digital scale.

    1. You cannot really expect a mass produced scale to show you an overcharge - they're not that sensitive or that accurate.

    2. Jewelers scale: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076K8GJ6T/

to .01 gram or .15 grain. Doesn't have to be perfect to tell 9.5 grains from 19 grains (double loading)

  17. Almost every time there are black shooters at my local indoor range it's a little too "exciting" and I vamoose.
Fucking hate me, I don't care, and I also don't care to be shot.

    1. I've got an unsupervised public outdoor range near my family's ranch that I've never shot at. Too many idiots, too much alcohol. And color has nothing to do with the intelligence of the fools. They come in all colors.

  18. A 1911 cannot fire out of battery. It was an overcharged round probably loaded on a progressive press that someone was running as fast as they could run it.

    1. Thank you, I was waiting for that. I've never owned a 1911 that you could pull the trigger if it was out of battery.
