Mossberg Shockwave Review - John Lovell

VIDEO HERE  (9:28 minutes)

*****

This shotgun/other has never appealed to me, mainly for the recoil issues that Mr Lovell points out.
Yes, I realize that it comes in .410 and 20 gauge, but if you're going to use a shotgun, use a 12 or maybe even a 16 gauge that'll throw sizeable chunks of lead downrange, not a shot barreled bird gun.

  1. He proves not everyone is the expert they claim to be. Idiot holds it like a 223 on the range. I’m old enough to remember when sawed shotguns were the shit…as are these.

    1. What you have is a solution looking for a problem. I had mine ported at Vang Comp. It still was a beast to handle. If you want to jump through the BATFE hoops, you can turn it into a short-barreled shotgun. I chose to sell mine. I just tuck to stock of my 18"-barrel Maverick under my arm. If I am in a vehicle, I have trained myself to reach for a high-capacity handgun. One can fight or drive, but not both (H/T to Clint Smith). Always remember: The best weapon you possess is the one between your ears. The first rule of a gunfight is having a gun. Bleib ubrig. DTW

  2. Check out Gabe Suarez's videos on how to run it. Lovell is a tard. The birdhead grip really mitigates recoil and if so inclined you can run a pistol brace on it. Kinda defeats the purpose though. With practice it can be quite surgical.

  4. 20 gauge is very manageable and plenty of firepower. All in a nice, compact configuration.

  5. Why not a youth model 20 gauge shotgun? Shorter stock and barrel for tighter places...

  6. Mini shots work really well to. They would be pretty devastating acrost the average living room. and it carries twice as many. YMMV

    1. I tried some of those in a Maverick. Worked OK, but feeding was a issue there....

    2. There is a small piece of rubber thwt you can put into the chamber of mossberges to get them to reliability chamber minis. The company is out of Texas.

  7. The guy in the video was not holding it correctly.. I have 3 shockwaves (2 12's and a 20) and am a small guy but can shoot them with no problem. They are an absolute BLAST to shoot! Also, once you learn how to hold them, are quite easy to shoot accurately. My state of OH doesn't allow them to be concealed, but otherwise treats them as pistols.

  8. Hard Pass. I'll stick with an AR pistol with a fold away stock adapter. Ammo management with a shotgun in a situation like that is sketchy at best.

  9. I have a shockwave and I like it. I have no issues at all with recoil. I find it easy to control and run, and with practice it's pretty accurate at close quarters gunfight range, which is its intended use. The strap on the forend is not needed at all in my opinion.
When I started using it I quickly learned that one thing you really need on it is a heat shield.
I also added a GG&G side saddle, low drag follower, extended safety, and a rail on the receiver with a pistol laser. The laser is useless in the light but at night it's great.
I'm not real impressed with Lovell's review. It's pretty well refuted by my own experience with my shockwave. I've seen several of his videos and I think he's kind of a dipstick anyway.

  11. Meh. My Mossberg 500A 12 ga. 20" does just fine coming out of a tight space. Hell, if I get snagged up in an emergency situation, I'll just shoot the door off the hinges.

  12. Aother thing is, you can buy the birds head grip and mount it on a mossburg 500 or 590 (they also sell the one that fits remington) You can use an 18 inch barrel and it is still over 26 inches with the BH grip... https://shockwavetechnologies.com/product/raptor-grip-for-mossberg-500/

  13. Kenny, Brett of Demonstrated Concepts has an excellent method for shooting the shockwave (and AR pistols) He developed a little grip strap also. All of his videos are very informative. This is a very short one on running the Shockwave. Ed
