When I was stationed at Argentia USNAS Newfoundland Canada back in the 60's they used to get them occasionally on the east coast of the island up around St. Johns in pretty close to shore.
@ Skip, No. I was attached to Communications Station. The ComSta was tasked with providing Fleet Broadcast to the North Atlantic among other things.
I've often wondered what the US is using to replace the SOSUS line that terminated there these days.
There was also a P-3 squadron stationed there. The inside of their Operations hanger was plastered all over with pics of Russian subs they caught on or near the surface. Mostly periscopes, but a couple they somehow manged to catch fully surfaced, recharging their batteries, in broad daylight.
Good Duty. The fishing was fantastic and on base, although you had to walk a couple miles to get to it. The base was DeCommed in '94, 25 years after I was there. From what I've read the airfield is still in use. Most of the buildings that were there are demolished.
Was AF at Keflavik 60-61. Was told that from time to time, a P-3 there would come back with a few bullet holes if they got too close to the Russian sub. Never saw it myself, though.
#1: I hope the guy in the brown jacket dropped the asshole's bike on his head after the video ended. a) I think that was a chick that the asshole pushed over b) She likely broke her collarbone falling and taking the impact on her left arm like that.
Do you know shit about racing? The rider in front gets to take whatever line they want. If you want to pass you have to adapt, the leader doesn't have to get out of your way. If you pull that Dale Ernhardt crap you get what you deserve.
What, sportsmanship and the better competitor winning? Shrimp, you must be some kind of white supremacist, believing in merit that way! --Tennessee Budd
#3 - Not seeing any shovels or probes on the back of the guy going downhill. That probably means no avalanche transceivers either.
ReplyDeleteSo he might well be dead, oh well.
Mountains in winter are not for the untrained and stupid....
I'd trust my back to my man in #1.
ReplyDeleteI hope he threw the bike in after him.
Delete#2 - I bet he can't even spell Division. Knowing his teachers, he probably doesn't know that its also a mathematics term.
ReplyDelete#8 Unless the water there gets crazy deep just outside the estuary, you’re not getting an iceberg that close to shore.

Nemo, were you in the Willie Victor barrier squadron?

You guys blind? The rider was defending the lane from the clearly aggressive cutoff. Maybe the one on the right shoulda been defenestrated instead.

DeletePainful, whatever it was. Looks to be in agony thrashing around after that fall.
DeleteThat #4 dude is great!
ReplyDeleteWhoever thought the helo over flight was a good idea just got sent to Siberia.
ReplyDeleteUkraine. Siberia is so 80s.
Delete#4 - gonna have to remember that move.
ReplyDelete#5 - the Romans built theirs better and higher without using a tire cheat.
#1 the rider in front was not keeping his line and cutting off the rider behind. Should have tossed the rider in front.
ReplyDeleteThat's not how racing works, dumbass. Shoving them out of the way is also, not how racing works.
