Our house cat has done something similar to that TV trick. We have clerestory sliding windows high up for house ventilation. The units are 24" tall, allowing a standard box fan to help exchange air faster. Cats get curious and jump on window sill. They then squeeze behind the fan next to screen and fan tips over and falls. Cat just looks down bemused at the scene of the crime - damn cat !!
I admit that I really like #5. Having been stuck in long lines of backup traffic due to an accident further up the road, anytime that some joker passing on the shoulder gets their just desserts, I'm happy.
The scholarly answer is "just deserts". According to MW, the word derives from the root word that gave us deserves and the phrase predates the word "dessert" being incorporated into the English lexicon. Interesting...
#7. The walk from Parking Lot #3 at U of MD every time it rained. I got smart and carried 2 brollies. One for the rain and one for the splash! Looked like a Roman Testudo.
#2 That's why our TVs and tall furniture are tethered to the wall.

ReplyDeleteThe diction police says it is "just deserts" not "just desserts."

DeleteFuckin' let it go, man. Let it go. Auto-correct is a karmic bitch.
I'd have never thunk it, but you're correct. Learned my thing for the day.
DeleteThe diction police would be wrong- it's "just desserts" like an after meal treat, not deserts like hot dry & sandy.
