#9 - Firefighters generally love doing that. Even if they get called to some minor car wreck, when they arrive, if there's a hydrant that's blocked, they will absolutely take out the windows (and anything else that's 'in the way of the job') to run a line to that hydrant. And when they're done and remove that pipe they won't be super careful on the way out either.
If you park blocking a hydrant or in a fire lane or, God forbid, in front of a fire station, you're basically disrespecting every firefighter that ever lived. Prepare to pay.
Yep, they could just as easily have laid the hose over the roof but would rather vandalize the car. Even though it is irresponsible to park in front of a hydrant. Doing this to a person's car is worthy of disrespect.
Going over the roof would have put a sharper bend in the supply line. This reduces the flow of the line. I would much rather have the dumb ass lose a window than have the possibility of inadequate flow that could endanger the fire fighters.
It's a great way to teach jerks a little bit of decency. If you're stupid enough to park in front of a hydrant, then you deserve any level of damage our vehicle is subjected to. Ah, city folk problems. Never did understand them folks.
Feraldog is right. Been humping hose for 30 years. I've never had to lay hose through a car myself, but I'm prepared to if the play calls for it. My crews don't take pleasure in breaking other people's stuff, but sometimes eggs gotta be broken to make the omelet.
That is a non-specific term, it doesn't really mean anything. If you enjoy getting laughed at, try visiting the local rod shop and ask for a quarter race cam.
#8 is taken on I-490 westbound a couple miles south of downtown Cleveland. I guess somebody had a really bad day with their boat trailer. I hope it was on the way back from a great day boating.
#9 I completely support what fireman do to cars parked in front of a hydrant. I tire of people who think they are so damn special they can park where they choose. Sometimes seconds can save a life. Don't like it. Don't park in front of a hydrant. Problem solved.
Daryl- Why would a cop or fireman 'flout their privilege' and risk their paycheck and pension by getting busted for parking in front of a hydrant when they could just as easily double park and not even get questioned about it?
They may be overpaid and arrogant but they're not stupid.
#1.....Just weld it up and file it down. I had an old MG and first gear was missing a couple of teeth so I welded them up with some 7018 and ground them down to match the profile of the other teeth and it was as good as new.
Well, Elmo, he did say it was an MG. Gear was probably made out of whatever Brits use to fix their teeth, on the rare occasions that happens. --Tennessee Budd
She runs good, just idles a little rough, should be easy fix. TF 9J Cougar, missed all wires and I think it caught on the lip or cables. Evidently was saved because not listed as lost or damaged beyond repair, struck 8/9/66.
I'd like to know how 10 happened

DeleteI believe the lesson is: Don't be an arrogant douche and park in front of a fire hydrant.

DeleteHow long you been firefighting Stuart? Surely you're not armchair-quarterbacking about something you no zilch about, right?

DeleteAnd stupid is supposed to hurt.
#7 - Been there, done that but it was at a drive-through on the way home from a bicycle race. It was the most expensive milkshake I have ever had.

ReplyDeleteBut that just makes too much sense. Let's bash firefighters instead since they take pleasure (IMO rightfully so) in breaking those windows.
DeleteThing is, firemen and police will flout their privilege by parking in front of a fire hydrant.

I'm far from an expert but it looks like that jet forgot to lower the tail hook. Of course, maybe the hook is just shy.
