RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. (TND) — An owner of one of Tesla's Model 3 cars reportedly says he was in quite the predicament on a California freeway when the onboard computer of his vehicle froze.
Javier Rodriguez of Irvine says his car was stuck going 83 miles per hour, according to his interview with KABC News in Los Angeles. He says the accelerator was frozen.
I had that happen to me years ago, floor mat got jammed up on the gas pedal, got rid of the mats & never had that problem again.

DeleteHappened to me when the vise grips that was holding the accelerator cable to the pedal on my nova got jammed under the pedal.

Same thing happened to me in a 1977 cheby impalla. The cruise control decided to floor the pedal on me going into downtown columbus one day. The brake switch wouldn't disengage it so I shifted into neutral, engine raced up, then I could brake and everything calmed down after that. Very strange experience. Never happened again.

As Musk takes on the woke people, I think more and more people will all of a sudden have issues with teslas just to harass him. At least in their mind.
ReplyDeleteI have a problem with my 2002 Suburban which I've owned now for 19 years. I was driving on the interstate and the engine cut off at exactly 98 MPH. I was pissed! The dealer said there was nothing wrong with it and it's supposed to do that, but why didn't they set it so it would cut out at 100 or 120 MPH?

I've heard of turbo diesels racing due to a blown turbocharger. Usually this has been caused by neglecting oil changes. The blown turbo sprays oil mist into the inlet manifold, the engine runs away and there is nothing that you can do to stop it.
ReplyDeleteShove a handful of shop towels in the air intake. Had to do it a few times...blown turbo oil seal pumps engine lube oil into the intake.
DeleteIt almost seems that these driverless cars are like riding a bus, without the actual driver there to control the bus, in case of some complication. For someone who grew up living in a city who never really drove that much, it seems normal that they would not have a problem with being driven without an actual driver sitting up front, making small talk, and telling them to have a good day, etc.
ReplyDeleteBut for people like me, who grew up in the sticks, and to whom getting our license meant freedom and the ability to drive to the big city, of 50,0000 people, where they had a cinema, and a mall, etc., it was like stepping from the desert into the movie set of Star Trek TNG, where suddenly everything that was impossible is suddenly within our grasp.
There is no doubt that driverless cars will become a thing. And that drivers will have to share the road with them. But it will be a long time, and very tiresome, and at times, dangerous proposition until everyone is competent enough with the system of them to call it a done deal that is a success. I wonder how many deaths and injuries it will take before they finally get it stable enough to call it a complete success? An even better question would be, do they even care? I think that we already know the answer to that last question.
You can stop a runaway diesel. Gotta be quick, and smother the intake. Not always easy, but it can be done.
ReplyDeleteA mechanic told me once to empty the dry chemical extinguisher into the air intake and plug the filter(no, not directly into the engine! Sheesh!). I assume this is a paper type filter on a road truck, but you only have a few tens of seconds regardless before it stops or it doesn't matter anymore, enjoy the $how, from a distance.
