once they get beyond breeding age, the females reject them. but they still cock-block the younger bulls. so shooting the older bulls makes sense if you want little critters like this.
we're talking about 2 sets of animals here. the "older but still breeding age" and the "pissed off grandpa who hates everyone who gets near "his girls" even though they don't want him"
grandpa ain't socializing anyone. he's killing them, doing a dance on their carcass for a few days, and pissing on what's left.
Can't remember where I read about it, but some wildlife preserve in Africa, I assume, had a problem with young male elephants, in groups, generally making themselves unpopular with the females and nearby humans. This sound familiar to anybody? Beuhler?
The preserves ultimate working solution was some older bull(s), imported from ??? who enforced some discipline on the unruly young'uns. Grandads kicked ass, I assume.
This might be the story. They told the story much better than I can.
That guy's got to be at least two if not three hundred pounds, wouldn't you think?
ReplyDeleteSure is cute.
Hug?
ReplyDeleteShe wasn't expecting a lap elephant was she.
ReplyDeleteBaby got a crush on her.
ReplyDeleteThat is a full on hug!
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, I've turned into a Nony instead of Tree Mike
. . . and some people shoot those animals when grown. Hunting obviously has its place, but shooting elephants?

DeleteApparently the older bulls play a >significant< role in socializing the younger males. Just like another group we know and love.
