Note to self: it's not just phones you have to worry about

A Connecticut man has been convicted of killing his wife with her Fitbit activity tracker being used as a key piece of evidence against him.

Richard Dabate claimed a masked man with a voice like actor Vin Diesel shot his wife, Connie Dabate, and tied him up before he burned the intruder with a torch at the couple's Ellington home on Dec. 23, 2015. The couple's two young sons were in school at the time.

  1. A couple years ago, Fitbit data revealed secret military bases in the Middle East.
There are other gadgets that also reveal personal data; these days you have to assume gadgets do unless you can prove they don't.
For example, Roomba vacuums upload your house floor plan to the company. They won't say what they so with the information.

  2. " Dabate remains jailed on $5 million bond while he awaits sentencing."

If it were in NY, he'd be free on his own recognizance and sent home to buy a fresh box of ammo.
