World has 10-week supply of wheat, expert tells UN Security Council: ‘This is seismic’

NEW YORK - Global food insecurity has reached levels not seen since the financial crisis of 2008, and it’s only going to get worse without aggressive intervention, a food insecurity expert told the United Nations Security Council this week. 

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine "did not start a food security crisis," but it did add "fuel to a fire that was long burning," said Sara Menker, CEO of Gro Intelligence, a global company that uses artificial intelligence and public and private data to predict food supply trends.

  1. I noticed yesterday, the farm closest to my house usually plants corn or soybeans. This year it is wheat.

  2. More fear porn. I am sure there are some countries who only have a 10 week supply on hand. That would be those countries who import all, or nearly all, of their wheat. However, wheat harvest begins in June for the US and Russia, so there will be more wheat available for those countries to import before their 10 week supply runs out. As for the wheat exporting countries like the US and Russia, you can bet there is way more than a 10 week supply on hand.

  3. Maybe the US can send them the millions of tons of 'pretend gasoline' corn to be used as FOOD?

  4. (Old Tech) Back in the 1980s, the supply chain was big news for those in agriculture. It was noted how the supply chain had shrank from seven years, to five and was being pushed to three - all by the big corporations and upper-level politicians. The excuse was that shipping had improved considerably and that famines would soon be a bad memory........
    Not long after that, there were famines throughout Africa and Asia. The blame was then placed on weather (a tip of the hat for the climate alarmists,) and a few warlords.
    After 2000 rolled around, the supply chain was approaching three months, which became absolutely significant - the planet was easily susceptible to a single crop failure in some far away part of the planet. Enter big business again...... they began promising even greater nd faster methods of delivery.
    Now, here we are. WHO do you think is actually controlling how much and when we eat?

  5. Today, as with every other time I go shopping, I pick up a couple of extra pounds of dried beans (various) or pasta.
    And every week I buy an extra box of ammo to ensure we're the ones that will eat it.

Last time I was in Indiana, late 90's I think, WE were driving out in the country side past huge, I'm talking miles huge, of farm fields where there was a narrow strip, 10 feet wide, of wheat planted that ran as far as you could see. The rest of the field was fallow. Plowed, but nothing growing on either side of that 10 foot strip. Then some years ago I ran across an article stating that fed.gov strictly regulates the amount of wheat that can be planted every year by each farmer. The regulation has something to do with keeping the price of wheat stable. I wonder how that's working out this year.

    1. That was one of the remaining policies of FDR. The very last of FDR's stupid policies ended in, I think, 2016 by court order.
