A Ford GT owner in Boca Raton, Florida crashed his recently purchased supercar into a tree Friday evening because he was "unfamiliar with how to drive stick shift," police say.

50 years old and he doesn't know how to drive a stick shift?
No license
ReplyDeleteNo insurance (“covered under umbrella policy)
No registration
Old tires, muddy pavement, and a fresh detailing were all factors
50 years-old with no manual driving experience
Didn’t have his phone (remember, he’s 50)
Claims he was doing 35 when he lost control
Bullshit
Goes to prove one may have the $$$$$ to own an exotic supercar, but it does not mean there are the skills/intelligence to drive one.
DeleteStupid idiot,
ReplyDeleteNot surprised, a friend purchased a Camaro for a song because the dealership couldn't sell it since it had a stick shift. Growing up all my family's cars had stick shifts, you either learned how to drive with one or you walked and bummed rides.
ReplyDelete"unfamiliar with how to drive stick shift" this is very strange for a portuguese to read. In Portugal almost all cars are stick shifts, and you are required to use a stick shift in your driving exam
ReplyDeleteWhy is that?
DeleteBecause is the law. In fact, you can drive an automatic transmission car in your driver's exam, but you will have a special driving license that only allows you to drive automatic transmission cars.
DeleteThat’s very common in European countries.
DeleteAlso because it's imbecilic to teach a kid to drive on an automatic. Teach them on a manual transmission; if they find themselves in an automatic it'll be simple. I taught all my kids to drive on my '72 Cheyenne--3-on-the-tree, no power steering.

One of daughter's boy friends bought a used car, manual transmission, forget what the model was. After getting the keys he realized he couldn't drive it, called daughter to come and drive it home for him. For shit, didn't even test drive it. Yea, I taught her how to grind the gears in my truck when she was about 14.
ReplyDeleteA nab with that many excuses, where did he get money to buy that car?
ReplyDeleteWe sent our youngest daughter to college in a 245 Volvo with a manual five speed. Others didn't ask to borrow her car because they couldn't drive it. This was at an ag school. Farm kids aren't what they were when I was young. It stood her in good stead when she lived in Europe since most of the rentals were standard transmission. She did much of the driving when on trips with friends because she had a decade more experience than any of them.
ReplyDeleteI call bullshit. If he bought a car that expensive and got it going fast enough to crash it, he knew how to drive a manual. He just didn't know how to drive a fast car and can't admit it.
ReplyDeleteMushrooms and shifting trees don't mix.
ReplyDeleteHe says he was upshifting 1 to 2 at 35 mph. He was dogging that car and lost control. The internet is rife with idiots buying these super cars and then running them into trees or ditches. It takes a while to learn how to control a standard transmission, especially with that high a power to weight ratio. The driver had a suspended license and the car was unregistered and covered only under an umbrella policy.
ReplyDelete"... this lead to a head-on collision with a palm tree..."
ReplyDeleteAnd all this time, I thought a head-on collision required two vehicles.
