Almost half in new poll sees likelihood U.S. will ‘cease to be a democracy in the future’

Almost half of all Americans believe the United States might “cease to be a democracy in the future,” according to a new Yahoo News-YouGov poll.

The poll of more than 1,500 adults released Wednesday found that 55% of Democrats and 53% of Republicans surveyed believe the country will “likely” not remain a democracy one day. Including independents and those who did not identify a political affiliation, 49% of all respondents expressed this belief.

Hell, we're already there and the last presidential election proved that. You vote doesn't count for shit and our representatives consider themselves to be our leaders instead of somebody that represents the voice of the People in their districts. With arrogance like that, we're finished as a democracy and headed for a straight-up dictatorship.

  3. It's like when califuckya voted not to let the gays marry , we were told as a republic, the majority could not take a minority 's right. But when the communists want your rights , they call it democracy.

  4. I wonder how many correctly said that we're not a Democracy right now? We're a Representative Republic. Senators and Representatives, and electoral college and all that.

  5. About 2400 years ago, Plato in Book 8 of “The Republic” predicts the natural progression of an Aristocracy to an Oligarchy to a Democracy to a Dictatorship. The transition that we are seeing in the US right now is exactly what Plato describes as the transition from a democracy to totalitarianism. The one thing that we have over the societies studied by Plato is that we have an armed public that hopefully will not allow the loonies to take over the asylum. So there still is hope. By the way a civil war would be very bad news (as was the first one), but it may be the least of the evils. Fortunately, almost all of those that have arms and know how to use them want to preserve our Constitutional republic.

  6. "...remain a democracy...". Retards. Never was a democracy, the United States of America has always been a republic that has been a called a democracy in recent times as they pervert the law and definitions. It would be fucking grand if it returned to a constitutional republic.

    1. It started going from a republic to a democracy when we let Woodrow Wilson get away with calling it one.

  8. @Surfer, @Amon/Ed, @Axe, you both beat me to the punch. Constitutional representative REPUBLIC. I wonder if that's even being taught in high school level Civics .. hell, is Civics even offiered?

I'm also tired of those anti-republic types bloviating/blathering on about things like the Popular Vote, which other than some mental masturbation is completely meaningless in our system.

  10. Proud of ya ‘all. Our framers set us up as a Representative Republic to protect us FROM a democracy. Nothing more than the mob rules.

  12. The U.S. isn't a democracy today. It never has been. It's a constitutional federated republic, a horse of a very different color. Trying to twist it into a "democracy" is the cause of at least 50% of our troubles. (Cf. Lani Guinier.)

  14. We know what we have is a Republic, it has been said forever, to those of us that are old. What has not been emphasized is what it takes to keep it. People like to say that they are willing to spill other's blood to keep our freedom. What nobody likes to say is, are you willing to spill your own blood, to keep our freedom? Because from what it looks like where I sit, that option no longer is going to be door number 3, but coming up to door number 1 very soon.

Sadly, the Democrats are the group pushing for door number 1, because they figure that they are going to come out ahead, if blood shed does occur. It is like a chess game, with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris merely pawns in the Democrats side of the board, and readily given up, in order to achieve the goal of dominance of the entire board. And the Dems don't care who or what they have to burn down in order to win.
They have a plan, no doubt about it. No one could be doing the things they do, that appear so stupid, by accident. No, they are doing the things that they are doing, with an end goal in sight. Just like the Afghanistan debacle. Who remembers that anymore, other than the loved ones of those either killed or left behind? For those unwilling to let America fall to those from within, now is the time to make sure where you stand, and what you are willing to actually risk. Because a wave is coming, and it isn't a wave saying hello. It is a wave of hatred for the America that we once knew, and trying to kill it little by little is about to stop, and the wave will be a final attempt to destroy it all at once, probably with it happening at an election that the left claims illegal, and then refuses to leave. What will the little people do? I mean, what will they really do? Complain and bitch online, and to their coworker, while waiting for more government handouts? I hope not.

    1. Pigpen51,

      Well said, as usual Sir.

In answer to your final question, I do believe  we can do something exactly because our nation is a Republic. Is there hope? Yes. But this hope wains more and more every day mostly because we have given ourselves to throwing up our hands in surrender or standing. Not standing FOR anything but standing pat. We are at the point of move it or lose it.

With your permission, I'd like to incorporate your comments here in an article. I will not do so without your express permission, even though the only real point of disagreement is what I said above.

      Thank you,

      Andy at The Liberty Coaliti

  15. It may be picking a nit, but we were never a democracy, and that word is not in any of the founding documents. Democracy is dangerous, if you can convince the majority they need some action or service it is acceptable under democracy rules. There is no protection by law with democy, it is a lynch mod with papers.

  19. ". You vote doesn't count for shit "
As long as Dominion voting machines are used that is very correct. The past two election here in GA have had results that were statistically impossible.
