Shotguns can be excellent tools for home defense, but their long overall length presents some challenges for maneuvering in tight spaces. Today we're looking at a technique called "short stocking" that was developed to meet those challenges. Short stocking has long been used by law enforcement and other entry teams but it's equally relevant for the armed citizen at home.
VIDEO HERE (9:23 minutes)
I was taught short stocking a M-16 back when I was in Joint Services. It takes practice and I would not do it with a shotgun.
ReplyDeleteA 12 gauge will blow out a lung.
ReplyDeleteThat's why you only fire a warning shot.
DeleteNo... you're mistaken.... that's 9mm... just ask Brandon....
DeletePaul Harrel has an episode on short stocking. What I remember of it is deciding the technique is something I'll avoid. Fuggedaboudit with a 12 ga.
ReplyDeleteInteresting.
ReplyDeleteFor this old cramped house, I decided that a 590 Shockwave and CT LaserSaddle would work best.
How about a KSG? Its already short and holds more rounds too
ReplyDeleteSaber 7
Like anything, it takes Constant Training.
ReplyDeleteOnce a month isn’t gonna cut it, neither is 5-10 rounds to get a feel or god forbid using it for The First Time For Real, most likely ain’t gonna end well.
Ya gotta get the Reps to get the Muscle Memory.
Most folks dont train with a shotty to begin with. Handguns and Carbines I bet are at least 85% of the training courses people do.
Best learn the Manual of arms and how to Run that gun.
Throwing in a Slug if need be rickty tick.
And if your running a semi, you damn well better Fully Understand that Manual of Arms and How to run it.
I cant tell ya how many folks, including myself Are Not Fast at all running a Semi let alone dropping in a Specialty Round in the middle of a Square Range run let alone True Combat.
Train Train Train.
Good Luck to all.
For Fuck Sake! It's a Shotgun! Point in the general direction and pull the trigger, repeat if necessary btays
ReplyDeleteNot hardly. A shotgun doesn't throw a wall of lead as soon as it leaves the barrel like a lot of folks think. With mine, you get a fist sized group at 10 yards using 00 buckshot. You still have to aim.
DeleteLe sigh, i hate to even go here. CAR does this also and it is wrong. A shotgun is made for the shoulder, possibly and least best to be fired from the hip. Full stop. If this is your fix, find a new tool.
ReplyDeleteDid this back in the 90s. Worked well for me. Taught it to my teenage daughter, who would run 6 shots (slugs, buck, and bird), all on target. Taught her girlfriend the same. Again, YMMV but if it works for you, then run it. Was VERY effective at ranges less than 25 yards (we never tried longer).
