#9. That's what the yellow lines are for. Back in Basic, they had little yellow safety squares painted outside of all the doors. To keep trainees from catching a face full of door. We were standing outside the mess hall one day. This Chief Master SGT, with hash marks from his wrist to his neck, came walking down the side of the building. But he was stopping at every yellow square and doing a broad jump. Who knows why. He was a CMS and not even the officers said crap to him. Well, he got up to the exit from the mess and took his jump. Just as a trainee opened the door. Knocking that SGT ass over tea kettle. Bloodied his nose. The poor trainee thought he was dead. But the CMS got up and told the trainee that it was his own fault for disregarding the safety lines. A true lesson in leadership and taking responsibility for your own mistakes.
