Tennessee lawmakers split on ‘red flag’ laws; Gov. Lee not discussing gun restrictions

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — On Wednesday, families of victims and survivors of the mass shootings in Uvalde and in Buffalo, New York, testified on Capitol Hill.

“I came because I could’ve lost my baby girl,” a Uvalde father told lawmakers.

Many Americans now begging for stricter gun control, universal background checks, banning assault weapons, and red flag laws, which allow certain people to petition a court to have firearms taken away from someone they consider to be a threat.

Even though Billy Lee was the one that signed permitless carry here, I'll be very surprised if he doesn't sign a red flag bill. I just don't have much faith in him.

  1. I've read pieces that claim that the Supreme Court has ruled that 'Red Flag' laws are unconstitutional. If that is the case, why are they still passing RFL and police departments are still utilizing them?

    1. Caniglia v. Strom’s 9-0 decision, Supreme Court ruled in 2021 that it is unconstitutional. (not that the current group of fuckers care). Note that the decision was a 9-0 unanimous decision, rare for the Nazgul...

Also please note our current would-be tyrants don't give a fuck about the Constitution, the Bill of Rights... that whole WROL thing we've talked about for years? Yes, brothers and sisters, we're there. Harden your hearts, it is time.

  2. Red flag laws definitely have the potential to be abused. Post something someone doesn't like on social media and next thing you know, cops are knocking on your door demanding you turn over your guns.

  3. No one should ever have any confidence...in any politician! Ever.

  4. A number of people I interact with are "I'm for the second amendment, BUT," people. With that group there is a strong buy in for red flag laws and laws that restrict the mythical "assault rifle". Appeals to logic don't seem to affect their stance.

  5. Red flag laws are completely against the Constitution, but that wont stop them, they disregard it on a daily basis already, why do you think they would change now, or ever. Any gommermint is always about control, always has been for every single gommermint of any type & stripe throughout history. Look it up.

  6. I know that everyone is aghast at the murder of young people. I mean, who would not be, just imagining the young bodies lying there, with their future snuffed out, by some nutjob with no sense of honor or humanity. But the idea of doing something, even if it is wrong, is simply not the answer.
I can already see the ex wives or girlfriends of someone, wanting to get even in their minds, putting the domestic abuse/red flag hotline on speed dial. Because no doubt the ones who use this once, and see just how pissed a man gets when having things that he worked hard to get, and that he once thought were the only things that nobody could ever take away from him, get stolen by a crooked, antigun anti constitution bunch of pissant politicians of both stripes, will be more than happy to have it in her arsenal of dirty tricks.
Now that we know that the Democrats have no interest in protecting the SCOTUS and their families when they make unpopular decisions about the constitution, it is doubtful that we can count on them to do the right thing, and say that this red flag fiasco is totally Stalinistic, and can not stand in a free society.
And yet once again, we see what is the American version of Kristallnacht Only this time, the people that they seek to enslave have much sharper teeth, and are willing to bite, and bite very hard. The left better watch what they wish for. They just might get it, and it won't be all unicorns and rainbows.

    1. This is a very possible situation. At a minimum the person requesting the RF should be required to swear out and sign an affidavit, none of this anonymous garbage. Then if the accusation turns out to be false the complainant should be investigated and prosecuted for civil rights violations which would also open them to a huge civil lawsuit.

  8. I’m ok with “red flag” laws......
As long as all lawmakers and government employees......
are forced to take and pass the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) test.....
annually after they reach full retirement age......currently 65-67 years old.....

    Oh.....and the results.....pass and continue.....fail and retire......
with the results published as a public record.

  9. "Many" is a weasel word. And Stalin had red-flag laws for mental illness; mental illness was defined as disagreeing with the government.
