The Northwest News Network reports that from January 1 to May 17 of this year, the agency logged 934 failure-to-yield incidents. While the patrol didn’t track this in the past, veteran troopers say there’s been a dramatic uptick in drivers fleeing traffic stops.
“Something’s changed. People are not stopping right now,” said Sgt. Darren Wright, a WSP spokesperson with 31 years on the job. “It’s happening three to five times a shift on some nights and then a couple times a week on day shift.”

Something's changed? Think this might be it? From the same article:
Under the new law, police officers can’t give chase unless there’s reasonable suspicion to believe the driver is impaired or the higher standard of probable cause to believe they’re an escaped felon or have committed a violent crime or a sex crime.
I don't know how to explain this to the good politicians of Washington State or why I even need to, but if you let people get away with anything, anything at all, they're going to go for it.
Or, perhaps, people realize that there is one set of rules for them, which means jail time, high fines, or both and destruction of one's employment/life/ etc....and there's another set of rules for those who are linked to those in power...where they don't get charged even when there's overwhelming evidence that would put "normals" in jail.
ReplyDeleteWait till those drivers go through Arkansas and have a pit manuever done on them to stop them.
ReplyDeleteawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww your actions have consequences. Tell everyone they must do this and they must do that and guess what, people get a wee tired of that. We all know that traffic is just revenue generation and obviously people are sick of it. And since the cops have "bravely" just showed once again how useful they are ..............F 'em.
ReplyDeleteWe tried to tell you that throwing away the rule of law would have consequences, but no, you didn't want to listen, all your experts.
well, reap it.
Good. Cops shouldn't be stopping someone for bullshit reasons anyways. The only reason the government should be allowed to fsck with citizens is if there's imminent danger to life or property, or rights have been violated.
ReplyDeleteBe interesting to see if (as I suspect) most of those “failures to stop” are occurring west of the Cascades, where the Californication of Washington has taken place. Sad fate for a beautiful state, and all those poor folks from Yakima to Spokane are paying the price for the majority of voters in Pierce, King, and Snohomish Counties. They are the ones who install morons like Inslee, Murray, and Cantwell.
ReplyDeleteIt has to be all that Nuked salt water from Japan that has made shitholes out 3 Pacific states.
ReplyDeletedon't need to import it. Home grown source Columbia Station
Delete"I don't know how to explain this to the good politicians of Washington State" ????????
ReplyDeleteGOOD politicians? They are never elected.

ReplyDeleteYou can't explain anything at all to a "good politician".
ReplyDeleteTo be a good politician, they have to be already dead.
Yes, I know that it used to be that a politician was an unmitigated bastard until death, then he became a statesman.
But this is post 2020.
When 99% of traffic stops are just revenue generation, such as a $400 ticket for going 10 over the limit? Hell yeah, if there's no downside to running I'd run too. I got caught in a speed trap a few months back. Empty highway, straight, sunny day, speed limit reduced from 70 to 60 by a hidden sign. 10 over and I got fucked. Of course this is Texas and running ain't a good idea down here, but if things were like there, I'd never stop for a cop again.
ReplyDeleteAin't nobody got any respect for cops anymore. It's going to get worse.
Cops have lost respect because, (not always) in many instances they have earned that lost respect. Most recent example, look at the Uvalde shooting scenario. Then pursue all the crap around the George Floyd incident and the burning & looting of many cities. Minneapolis, Portland, etc. They cannot pick and choose what laws they enforce or disregard and earn any respect. Either enforce the laws, or not. This is the result.
DeleteThey in fact do have the right to pick and choose what to address. The Super Supremes said so. Otherwise, they would have to enforce everything.
DeleteDo they not have the tag number? Can they not resolve that to the owner's address? Can they not impound the car until the driver is apprehended? Does the radio not work at the speed of light? There are sweet fuck all reasons to engage in a high-speed chase.
