KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Powell “can opener” has struck again, damaging another vehicle on Thursday.

A low-hanging railroad bridge on Central Avenue Pike at Irwin Drive in Powell has been the site of multiple accidents, leading locals to name it the “can opener”.

  1. Cambridge Massachusetts, across the river from Boston, has “the truck eating bridge.” Most truck rental contracts and the insurance policies specifically put responsibility for low bridge damage on the person who rents the truck.

  2. I've passed under this RR bridge countless times and have pondered over its lack of improvement. There are many similar RR bridges in this area but, none with this reputation.
A product of the hilly terrain in East Tennessee.

  3. There is one in Kansas City Mo also. At least the bridge in Durham NC has a camera so we can all see it happen. yovo68 on you tube
