Your Friday Morning Florida Report

A teacher at a Christian high school in Florida was arrested after allegedly sexting with a student and trying to sneak him into her home while her husband was away, police said.

Julie Hoover, a 38-year-old teacher at Point of Grace Christian School in Perry, was charged Wednesday with one count of an authority figure soliciting or engaging in sex with a student after allegedly exchanging explicit messages with an 18-year-old senior student, according to police records obtained by WCTV.

While I agree that it's morally reprehensible for a teacher to seduce a student, the kid is 18 years old. It sounds like it's more of an issue between her and her husband more than it is between her and the law.

    I'd agree with your comment, Wirecutter, but perhaps the the 18-year old had a handicap of some sort, making him more vulnerable?

    BTW for those who also look in on the Sondrakistan blog, anyone know what is going on it it? Haven't been able to access it for a couple of days. Get a 'timed out' error message when I try to access it. .

    It is illegal for teachers, mental health therapists, addiction counselors, and the like to have sex with their charges. The idea being that the professional relationship puts the client at a disadvantage.

      Alabama has such a statue also Divermedic. There was a case where a twenty something smoking hot teacher had it going on with an 18 year old senior young man. It was an ongoing thing. The teacher pleaded "no contest". Even though by age they were consenting adults, the teacher violated the law (I believe it reads "any school employee violating the trust of a student"). It was a highly publicized. The teacher ended up losing her job and pleading to a lesser charge.

      I agree. Same thing with a superior-subordinate relationship. Corrections office-prisoner relationship. Or even a intern-president of the most powerful country in the world relationship. It really doesn't matter if the 'victim' was consenting - or even the initiator.

      Depending upon the profession or relationship it should be professionally terminal or criminally punishable.

    I saw her photo and thought "I'd hit it",..pause.... with a baseball bat. But then at 18 the kid would probably stick his dick in a knothole of an oak tree.
