sitting in what the family called the "way back"; the rearward facing seat in the Buick Vista Cruiser (had windows in the roof, too... bad ass for a kid) my little sister in the middle seat with all the family shit between us... listening to Paul Harvey as dad drove us from Detroit to Green Bay in the '60s... he was usually on the radio as we drove through Gary, Ind. - even then we called it "Gray Indiana". Growing up in '60s America was the fucking best. I guess that makes me a boomer. Got to fight in a war later, too. Shit happens. Original Grandpa
1965 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser. We rented one for a summer trip. Two parents, three kids. Raised rear section. The forward-facing roof windshields turned the back seats into a greenhouse. No way could the dash AC compensate. . We had a 1960 Buick Invicta station-wagon, 455ci. Bought new. My da took the bus from California to Detroit to buy at a local dealer to save the 'shipping&delivery' charges. Gasoline was about four cents a gallon. No idea of the cost of the bus ride. . These days, the bus rider would probably be flagged by the feds because of the 'suspicious one-way ticket'. . Why rent a similar vehicle? No idea. My da worked at Aerojet around rocket fuels. Could have something to do with it...
The truth is always in "The Rest of the Story".....
