It's a step in the right direction

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - The Madison County school system in North Carolina says it plans to put AR-15 rifles in emergency safes in all of its six schools as part of a new incentive for increased security in the wake of the deadly Uvalde, Texas, school shooting earlier this year when 19 children and two teachers were killed in a fourth-grade classroom.

  1. What a pointless "Got to do something" attitude. So there is a weapon that may be accessible. Or not. Staff who may know how to use it. Or not. Police will bring their own weapons regardless of what is at the school.

    My idea:
How about volunteer teachers trained for concealed carry with their own personal weapon, subsidized range time for those teachers , and a small gun safe installed in the room where they teach for the times they can't carry. Only the volunteer has the key/code. They should only need 1 or 2 volunteers per school. The hardest part in too many districts will be getting 1 or 2 volunteers. We are talking about school teachers, you understand.

  2. Boy, what a relief, school safes will now be safe, there is nothing safer than a safe safe.
