My wife is a retired Resource teacher. No excuses for this woman. If you can't take it, you need to transfer or take a different job. While a few are just slow kids with crap parents, never taught how to act in society, most of those kids can't help how they are: drug babies, fetal alcohol syndrome, dyslexia combined with low IQ, on and on. Classes way too large, tremendous heat from administration, ridiculous paperwork standards from state, kids that are sweet but can't master colors, end of year tests these poor kids have to take and the tests may as well be on rocket science and Shakespeare's sonnets. Written in Latin. And you want this likable, well mannered little Mexican boy with slightly below average IQ and a reading processing deficit, very nominal English, parents that speak no English to take a 4 hour test. And you're going to blame the teacher when he fails miserably and brings down the average for the school. And are you going to gloat when that nice little boy is crying because he can't do it and is required to sit there and demonstrate what a failure and stupid loser he is? My wife can tell you stories that would curl your hair. The poor kid whose mother and grandmother were prostitutes while dad was serving time in state prison for selling drugs. The little girl and her younger brother who were both being sexually molested by their dad, the little girl that transferred in from another state, my wife saw cigarette burns on her, called DSS, and the girl never came back. Parents got wise and moved on. Then there was the poor little boy that was always having "accidents." One day he had bad enough accident that his dad tried to spoon lye down his throat so maybe the cops would think he'd poisoned himself instead of being beaten to death by his dear old daddy. That boy was a twin by the way. He never abused the twin, just Toby. There's a bunch of others and all this is kind of off topic but Resource or Special Ed. is a whole different animal. I don't know how my wife did it.
How many more cases like this are there that we never hear about?
