The Gunfight at the OK Corral, the Wild West’s most famous gun battle, lasts just 30 seconds with approximately 30 shots being fired. The gunfight occurs on October 26, 1881, killing Tom McLaury, Frank McLaury and Billy Clanton. Virgil Earp, Morgan Earp, and Doc Holliday are wounded. Wyatt Earp is not injured in the shootout.
Used to go to Tombstone before they paved the road out to there from Sierra Vista, now it's a place for motorcycle groups to ride to for brunch.
ReplyDeleteNowadays, every town has a place where several people have been shot, but no brunch....FJB
Yeah, that sounds backward of the way things used to be.
DeleteFJB!!!!!
DeleteGood read. Other than the OK Corral, I knew none of that.
ReplyDeleteEvery year for Halloween (the day after the shootout) is the biggest event in Tombstone of the year. Lots of people dress up in period costume (other than the regular ones who are always dressed that way) and do what is called "The Ghost Walk" up and down Allen Street between the OK Corral and the Bird Cage Saloon. The best Halloween party in my experience. Doing it again this year. The Asian tourists are always a hoot!
ReplyDeleteConsider attending the shoot at Big Sandy.

Very interesting time line.
ReplyDeleteI've read that Wyatt was never wounded in any of the gun fights he was in.
ReplyDeleteAs usual, no mention is made of why anyone was going to California. The Earp's parents lived in Colton, just outside San Bernardino. Morgan was buried there. Virgil later became the towns first city marshal despite his bum arm. Wyatt, of course, regularly votes the straight Democratic ticket from his home in Colma, California.
