Jim Beam Is Making Renewable Gas From Bourbon

The renewable energy revolution just got a whole lot more fun. The Beam Suntory company has announced that it’s going to be increasing its production of Kentucky bourbon using the power of renewable gas. In order to meet the growing demand for whiskey, Jim Beam is going to increase capacity by a whopping 50% at its Booker Noe distillery in Boston, Kentucky while also reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by the same percentage. A recent press release from Jim Beam and its Japanese parent company Suntory announced a $400 million investment in a renewable biogas system. “This expansion will help ensure we meet future demand for our iconic bourbon in a sustainable way that supports the environment and the local community that has helped build and support Jim Beam,” CEO Albert Baladi said.

  1. Somebody get back to me if they're still operating this five years after implementation. They'll be looking at the real costs then and not the projections of the people selling them the plant machinery to make the gas.

    1. No, tis true, they use the leftover mash as combustible fuel after its dried out, and capture methane from the fermentation process.

    2. Add raising Pigs to the cycle. Feed the pigs the exhausted mash, use the pig-poo for more efficient methane production, Sell/trade the exhausted poo back to the corn farmers, and get Bacon, Ham, Ribs and other piggy goodness to boot! (MMmm...Scrapple..../Homer)

    1. Ummm. Yeah, you should look at who owns what label.
Hey Kenny, I see a new post topic in your future. I've seen one really well done graphic (forget where..), short version is about 6 companies own 95% of the labels you drink, yes, even that one. Sad, really. There are still some independents, so find one and try to support it at your local liquor store. I've grown very fond of Chattanooga whiskey. They even have a few that are good sipping with a few ice cubes.

  5. This is that ESG crap we're seeing these days. If it's not stopped, every damned thing in life will be ruled by it. Including your ability to travel or eat normal food. The wealthy will easily pay the "carbon credits", and we'll be left with no option but eating bugs.
