HOUSTON - Authorities in the Houston area are warning against drivers using fake decorative license plates on their vehicles.

"The driver said he just moved from out of state," said Slack. "He needed a license plate for a vehicle he just purchased. He went to Amazon to find such a thing."
People today treat illegal tags and other vehicle related no-nos like they treat the posted speed limit. Everybody else is doing it so that makes it OK . If you're one of those rare individuals and obey the law they consider you a fucking idiot.
My state only has the rear plate, so I have a custom plate on the front. Bought mine at a gas station. Cops looked at it recently (long story, I was standing next to them). They ignored the front plate and went to the back plate. Never said a word about the front plate.
I must wonder about how forthcoming the story is. Texas is a two-tag state. One plate for rear, one for front. How many of these "illegal tags" are simply vanity nothing plates displayed on the front bumper, but still bearing a legal plate on the rear? Especially for newly moved residents that came from single tag states.
That's illegal here in one-plate N.C. Ken, but I see New York, Michigan and other states often. it's one of theose "If the cops want you for fucking around with them" like a non working license plate light they'll nail you. Then as they're writing you up on the side of the road cars at flying past at 40+ MPH over the posted limit.
Montana is at least a 2 tag state. In border areas the state will go onto construction jobs and ticket worker's cars that only have out-of-state plates even if the worker is a resident of, for example, Wyoming and has Wyoming plates. It's not that that uncommon to see dual plates front and rear on some vehicles along the border.
Not exactly on topic, but the subject of cars, Texas, and the law made me think of it. Years ago, I did grand jury duty for the county and learned that there is no such thing as auto theft in the state of Texas. Texas went to charging for unauthorized use of a vehicle. Same punishment, but easier to prosecute. The DA explained that cars were stolen and traded all over the state, and the person they would catch the vehicle with would be several trades down the line from the theft, so it would be impossible to charge them with theft, and possession of stolen property is a lesser charge. So, to make stolen cars less valuable, they changed to unauthorized use so junkies couldn't trade them to people who would then face an easily provable charge. I asked the DA if parents had used that against their children, and he said yes, many parents have let their teenagers sit in jail for a while before dropping charges.
I watch a tow truck driver in Atlanta. They use photo copies of an actual plate, or temp tag, even make their own.

Delete"Consider". I do not think that word means what you think it means.

DeletePlease. PLEASE! Tell me you're concern trolling.
Why would anyone even think of getting their license plate from Amazon?
ReplyDeleteBecause at least half the population are idiots.
DeleteWhy wouldn't they? They got their Social Security card at the local bodega, didn't they?

Tennessee is a one tag state. My nearest neighbor still carries his Alaska tag on the front, taxed Tennessee tag on the rear.

DeleteWest Virginia is one tag. When I moved across the river I kept my Ohio tag on front.
