Sounds to me like a cultural instead of a gun problem
DETROIT - About 2 in 10 U.S. adults say they or someone close to them has had a personal experience with gun violence, according to a recent poll that shows Black and Hispanic adults are especially likely to have had their lives touched by it.
A couple of days ago in Phoenix a guy nutted up and knifed four family members to death. Meanwhile, a couple of low-lifes shoot each other. Guess what was the leading narrative from the talking heads...
I've had a shotgun pointed at me and my friends when we were some place we weren't supposed to be. I've had a .44 mag pressed up against my head when I was messing with a girl I probably shouldn't have been messing with. And I pulled a .357 on someone who was about to do something they shouldn't do. We won't even get into running from the Mexican police. In all cases, nary a shot was fired. I never considered that "gun violence", it was more along the lines of very stupid people suddenly getting way more intelligent (or very drunk to stone cold sober, works either way). In all cases, it was definitely NOT a gun problem. I blame the whiskey.
It isn't a gun problem, its a people problem. I've had many contacts with guns, more than I can count, but not all of them were good. Scraping the pieces of skull and brains off of my neighbor's apartment wasn't a fun day -- the moral of the story is execute rapists. I've had to sit through a guns are bad (in the 80's no less) speech in the auditorium at school after one of my buddies tried to clean a loaded rifle -- moral of the story is never point a gun at something you don't want to shoot. I've also been threatened by an outraged husband with an automatic rifle -- moral of the store is don't get caught fucking someone else's wife. Do I blame the guns... fuck no, well, that last one was my fault for getting discovered, but in no cases was the gun the problem, people are always the problem. Sometimes, you won't know that there's a problem until they have a 3rd nipple or a fully ventilated cranium.

ReplyDeleteBoth of the murder victims I've known were beaten to death. Too bad they didn't have a gun at the time.
ReplyDeleteI've gotten M-1 thumb before. Does that count?
