Damn, Macon County didn't even place.
Of course that might be because there's not a single bar in the entire county. Hell, you couldn't even order a beer or a glass of wine with your meal until just last week when they repealed an ordinance outlawing that.
I happen to own one square inch of land at the Jack Daniel's Distillery, and last time I visited, that county was dry also.
ReplyDeleteWell, we're not completely dry, just damp. I can buy beer in town and there is one tiny liquor store in Red Boiling Springs, the only other town in the county about 10 miles from here as the crow flies, 15 miles by road.
DeleteI’m surprised Shelby County didn’t place higher. Then again, they were only counting arrests. I’m guessing the police in Memphis are too busy investigating murders to spend time on DUIs.
ReplyDeleteWhen my brother lived here, he complained about not being able to buy beer on Sundays unless he drove to RBS. Poor planning, I guess.
ReplyDeleteShort, but true story. He used to drink a lot, to the point of passing out. His couch had several places that were burned out holes, saved by flame retardant materials. At one point, he decided to "cut back" on his drinking and more than halved his beer consumption. At the convenience store right outside of his apartment, the Miller representative eventually showed up to ask why their biggest single retailer of Miller was not selling as much beer. He told them one customer had cut back. Reportedly, the Miller rep went slack jawed and walked out incredulous.
Fucking legend, man.
