Yeah, I'd be concerned too

LEESBURG, Fla. - Homeowners and residents in Leesburg are concerned about increasing electric bills. Some homeowners said their electric bills have increased to more than $700 or $800 a month.

"It’s insane. It’s unaffordable. They need to help us all, it’s too much," said Carrie-Ann Waddell. She said her latest electric bill was $700 for her three-bedroom home.

  1. The Libs will blame DeSantis, of course.

  2. Derek Wallman is actually a theater friend of mine, he's been posting frequently about how angry he is about the increase in the bills. It's insane. My wife and I unfortunately have Leesburg Electric, and we're not happy about it either.

  3. I get it, gas prices are off the charts. Biden is destroying the country. However, I've gone into peoples homes and it's so damn cold I have to leave. My wife and I usually put on long sleeve shirts when we grocery shop. When it is in the nineties outside and your home is sixty-eight inside there is something wrong. Maybe consider moving North if you like the cold, it's free and there is a lot of it. I use a/c in the summer months, not spring and fall, and keep it at eighty-two. I sleep under a sheet not bankets and comforters. In the winter I keep the house about seventy-eight. In the summer I open my windows at night and let the fresh air in, it's good stuff. Temps drop to the high seventies in the night and I close the windows in the morning capturing the cold. My a/c doesn't usually kick on until after noon. I have thick blinds on the east side and they are closed in the morning. We keep lights off if we aint in the room. We don't turn on a tv and leave it on all day mainly cuz we don't own one. We conserve everywhere we can. If you have a pool running of the pumps eight hours a day is enough. A Spa put it on summer mode and drop the heat. A one hundred or above degree Spa in the summer is foolish. I'll bet a lot of people have no idea how long their pool pumps run becuase some service takes care of it. I feel bad for people and hate what Biden has done. However, I think they ought to look where they can conserve too. I'm getting long winded. Democrates run their mouths all the time. Republicians are silent. Start talking, start wearing shirts, hats that support Trump or the Republician party if ya don't like Trump. I've never really considered Trump a republician. Let your voice be heard now, don't wait until the election to take a stand. Remember, one year of Trump and we would be energy independent, the wall construction would be wide open, trade would become a business as it should be and I assure you the economy would be on the verge of recovery. I think that would be accomplished in one year. Ya don't like his mouth or his attitude? Me either, but that's who he is and by gar he gets shit done.

  4. Maybe it's me but $700/$800 is crazy. I few years ago I owned a 2 bedroom home and my highest bill was $135. We're on nuclear and in a co-op so maybe that helped. But I've been hearing about people running up thousands of dollar in electric bills (I'm guessing over some time frame) and whining that they can't afford that.

    1. My electric bill has been averaging about $230 a month, up 100 bucks from when Biden took office.
My wife has pretty bad vision issues, so we keep a couple lights on all night in strategic spots so she can see if she has to get up in the middle of the night.

    3. Here in madera california during the vicious heatwave. My last electric bill is $715, the one before was $691. And that is even using 10% less energy than I did last year when the bill was $550. 1900 square foot home. 13 years ago I can remember $200 electric bill during august heat.

    5. First, your Dad's light bulbs were only 5% efficient. Now, you're probably using an LED bulb that's 25 to 50% efficient - using 1/5 to 1/10 as much electricity.

Second, after accounting for inflation, wages were pretty low and electricity was damned expensive back then. In most states, the cost of living has shot up far more in the areas where the government intrudes even more than energy production - housing, medicine, education, and automobiles.

    1. Yes! Sadly these dumbfucks are incapable of seeing the connection. Rather than admit the obvious, they double down on their idiocy.

    2. My wife and I both have insomnia. We too have night lights about the house so we can get up and walk around without disturbing the one fortunate enough to be sleeping at the moment. Or from bustin our asses tripping over stuff.

  6. Ocala reporting in. We also have Duke Energy and we average-out, meaning Duke averages the previous six months usage and bills that amount for the next six months then the cycle repeats (any overage is billed according to usage.)

I am the electric nazi in our home. Our usage (3 BR/2 BA, two adults, no kids) is appropriate for our living conditions and you are going to hate me when I tell you our monthly summer usage averages $150 +/-. That said, we just paid out the butt for upgraded windows and plantation shutters this year (house is 3O years old, it was time). We have replaced old incandescent bulbs with LED and installed new energy efficient fans that run 24/7. We keep the AC set at 79° during the day and lower it to 76° at night and the moment my feet hit the floor in the morning I raise the thermostat. We keep the shutters closed where exposed to sunlight and open them as the sun moves across the sky (yeah, yeah, I know; the earth rotates). We added blow-in insulation in the attic focusing on the area above the garage. Doors are kept shut during the summer and God help anyone who stands there blocking door closing while letting the AC out.

Winter is my favorite time where we can open the windows and allow fresh air. We sleep with windows open and I keep the thermostat set to 65° You cold? Put on a sweater.

I know our rates will jump soon - ain’t nothing I can do about that except be thankful we don’t live in Gainesville as OUC has the highest rates in Florida.
