LOS ANGELES - Authorities said a liquor store clerk, who was attacked by a group of teens and assaulted with a scooter in Southern California's Highland Park area, reportedly over a case of beer, has passed away.
Liquor store and gas station clerks (and any others) need to keep a loaded Mossberg 500 behind the counter to counter the “honor students” who decide to rob the place or assault them or their customers.
This is both sad and sobering. Many companies have adopted policies to not confront shoplifters to avoid these situations, which paradoxically appear to make news stories like this more common. A number of years ago, the denizens of the fair city of Baltimore decided that the armored plexiglass enclosures that clerks had to operate behind to lower their death rate at the hands of thugs were making them dehumanized. Baltimore then forced businesses there to remove the plexiglass partitions. Our nation out of necessity is becoming a human-operated vending machine writ large, where allowed by law. I hope the youthful criminals are charged and tried as adults. Felony murder rule applies to all of them, now guilty as the one who murdered that clerk. Basic criminal law stuff, even a California prosecutor should be able to win that one.

ReplyDeleteAmazing how despite having video footage of the perps, a public description was not released. Must be those Mormons again.
