Florida official: EVs starting fires in hurricane aftermath
(NewsNation) — Firefighters in western Florida are responding to numerous calls concerning electric vehicle fires after they’ve been stuck in the flood waters caused by Hurricane Ian, according to a state official.
Any short can start a fire with a high energy density battery. Oh, and water doesn't put out a metallic lithium fire. Hot lithium metal reacts quickly with water to generate highly flammable hydrogen gas, creating MORE problems. It actually accelerates the fire to put water on it, causing it to react faster, but it does cause the reaction to finish quicker than if you just let it burn. Don't believe me? I can show my work...
