Fuck that shit, they can't even build a reliable electric car

United Airlines is aiming to have electric aircraft flying regional routes by the end of the decade, part of the company’s goal to fully reduce its carbon footprint to net zero by 2050.

    EV airplanes nope....
I’ll wait for dilithium crystal powered aircraft.

    1. Those AC won't carry much. The batteries will weigh far too much. I would hate to see how long it would take recharge the battery bank.

    2. some dumb city officials ordered a load of EV's, they take 4 DAYS to charge, 4 days of generated power to charge one battery, got to wonder how long that charges lasts and how much "climate crisis" that produces.. Aside from 100 corporations making 90%of the worlds pollution, and blaming the little guys for the problem, and coordination to make the little guy pay for the big guys pollution.

  2. Tree-huggers and politicians (some overlap) should test-fly the prototypes.

    1. And stand under them in case they crash and need some cushion.

  3. I can see it now...massive super-tankers, using huge amounts of fuel to stay airborne, running massive generators using more fuel, to connect to electric airliners to recharge them in-flight! United will get to claim to be carbon zero!

  4. To queue an old joke, if the batteries go flat you'll be stuck up there all day until they can send up a helicopter with booster cables.

  5. Would you be shocked if you crashed ?

  8. Comment I saw recently on batteries -

One of the first things I teach students on the first day of energy policy classes I have taught is how energy density works, and how a battery is a device to store energy at high densities. But at a certain point, when you increase the energy density enough, we don’t call it a battery any more. We call it a bomb. Steven Hayward

  9. Someday the NTSB crash investigators will say: "The American Airline, wanna-be-popular-with-the-ecotard-assholes, shoulda listened to Icarus".

  10. these people are totally insane. They will never get the energy density of kerosene in an equivalent weight of batteries. idiots.

  11. They might as well just wrap you in bubble wrap and catapult you to your destination.

  13. My daughter tried to tell me that visiting her in Europe will get a lot less expensive in a few years when we have electric airliners. I told her that wasn't going to happen in my lifetime or hers and probably not her 2 year old daughter's either.

  14. The battery storage compartment better be a vented pizza oven given the history of thermal runaway fires with much smaller batteries. Look no further than Boeing's 787 plastic airplane and its lithium battery fires.

  15. This is a wonderful way to get rid of TSA...no one will fly.
