We found a few bales of 'something' floating around while fishing offshore off Hattaras. We were afraid to fuck with them at all. #1 fear was the rightful owners might kill us or worse, #2 was fear of getting arrested with them. They were pretty good-size bales. If they were coke and we had recovered them, my manservant would be typing this for me. Ed
Way back when there was a story going around about a Coast Guard 3rd Class Bosun mate found shot to death in his brand new Porsche. Seems the 3 man crew of a small boat found some bales & didn't turn them in. Or so the story goes...
As a teen, my dad and I were fishing with a family friend and his son ... we caught a "square grouper" ... put out a radio call to the Coast Guard ... they said so long as no other suspicious looking craft were around, bring it in, they'd meet us at the harbor. Funny thing ... after we lashed the "grouper" to the transom, well, the fishing got BETTER !!!
Of all the fishing trips, walks on the beach, and trips to Home depots cabinet section, I never once found a bale of anything, damnit.

Used to live and work in South Florida. Some of the guys from the 70s and 80s down there said bails would wash up sometimes at the plant.
ReplyDeleteYep. Nuke the whales, save the bales!

ReplyDeleteThis might be one of those huge nylon socks that they put in place, full of sand, to limit beach erosion.
ReplyDeleteExcept for the bolted on porthole.
DeleteAlso, some attempt at camo seems to have been made.
