MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (WBKO) - The late country singer/songwriter, John Prine, was honored Saturday afternoon in Muhlenberg County with the unveiling of the new “John Prine Memorial Park at Rochester Dam.”
If you have ever heard the song called “Paradise” by the late John Prine, you would know he is writing about his parent’s small town known as Paradise in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.
Been there . It'll take your breath away in the spring time . There is a powerplant nearby . Or at least there was before Bath House Barry destroyed the coal power industry . While the Recucklicans sat by and watched .
first time I heard him was back on FT.Campbell KY. I think late 75, early 76. I always had that song/album. first on vinyl and then cd. and it still on the shelf.
Got turned on to John Prine from my best friend's family that was really into folk and old timey country music. He was a genius and many songs that I thought were old time folk songs turned out to be ones he wrote.
We used to have a nice little mountain town called "Paradise" here in California...before PG&E "accidentally" burned it down. Yes, I mean the entire town. And yes, it WAS a paradise.
John Prine was absolutely incredible. I've been really in to him for about 10 years - I wish it were longer. Don't forget that he wrote 'Angel From Montgomery' which Bonnie Raitt made famous.
I think my favorite song of his is 'That's The Way The World Goes'. It contains this amazing verse:
I was sittin' in the bathtub countin' my toes When the radiator broke, the water all froze I got stuck in the ice without my clothes Naked as the eyes of a clown
John played a role in my teenage years. Not many singer songwriters on his level.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree and think he’s a national treasure.

I thought he played a guitar.
DeleteA very talented and humble man, and what a terrifically fitting way to honor him.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, I discovered John Prine thanks to PBS TV way back in the mid-seventies. Was a fan from that day forward.

I hope they honored his wishes. He was a hell of a story teller in his songs

ReplyDeleteI wonder if he's done with his 9 mile long cigarette?

Check out Susan Tedeschi's cover of Angel From Montgomery sometime. Look for the live version. She rocks that song.
