Hawaii: We'll stop you one way or another

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Gun owners on Oahu are still without a public range as a probe into possible lead contamination at Koko Head Shooting Complex continues ― and new details emerge about what the city knew.

Two months ago, the range closed abruptly after tests showed nearly everyone who worked there had elevated lead levels. Hawaii News Now has learned it’s not the first time range staff were found to have a concerning amount of lead in their blood, and that the city was informed of the issue.

From Chris:
Honolulu is mad at gun owners as we are, slowly, getting our right to carry approval. Without this only gun range concealed carry permits can not be granted as we have no place to fulfill the training/certification.

  2. Well, it appears you can prove your gun handling skills and master markmanship by shooting the libs that were involved in the closing down of the range. A tight grouping in center mass should almost all but ensure the approval of your license. If not approved...keep shooting upward until you get to the right person in charge. That should do it.

Also, what is the lead/blood issue with other range employees around the country? Is this a real issue, or just in Hawaii?

  3. The Marines or Army should open up their ranges to limited civilian access.

And yes, there are many parts of the islands white people aren't welcome, including on Oahu.

All active duty military, DoD employees, retired DoD are immediately eligible to join. I do not know what percentage of membership non-military are allowed but there was a long waiting list when I was a member 10 years ago.
once in a while we were able to check out range KR3 which was SDZed for .50 bmg, and had 1,000m targets.
      good fun.

    1. I'm haole. I was born and raised on Oahu until not quite age 16.

15 yrs later I sailed there from CA. I met a Hawaiian and we pal'd around for several days. He took me to places haole never go. Great time.

In 2019, 22 yrs since I been back, everyone so nice. I went to many old haunts. Way off the beaten path. Locals only. Locals super nice. No stink eye nowhere. Very strange, way different from when I lived there decades before.

Still, I won't move back. You can never go home. Too many changes. Auwe

    1. The only public access range on Oahu is the Koko head Shooting complex.
Two action shooting bays, skeet, HPD training bay, 25/50 yard pistol qualification bay, 100 yard rifle bay and a pistol caliber silhouette bay. All in the Koko Head creator, extinct of course. There used to be targets out to 300 yards at the rifle bay until......
