  2. From one perspective, these are examples of hardworking people that value their dignity and wanted to stay on their own feet.

    On the other hand, these are examples of what a complete lack of regulation in a pure capitalist economic system can do. The exception I noticed was bread; trying to regulate the size of the loaf and price it could be sold for resulted in questionable ingredients being added as filler. I suspect trying to regulate the ingredients too would have made people stop selling all together because who wants to sell at a loss?

    Regulation and social welfare is like pure vanilla extract, a few drops is sufficient and anything more is both wasteful and ruinous.

    1. Adulteration, then shutdown of commerce when the cost of bread exceeded the allowed price was the experience in France before Marie lost her head about it.

    2. In Zimbabwe bread price is regulated so it is unavailable unless they know you then you pay the market related black market price.
