My former neighbor had a border collie with a yard that's 30' by 40'. It used to try to herd me through the fence. I felt so bad for the dog. I'm sure in that small yard and being alone in the house for all day made him insane.
I had a friend who inherited his father's Border Collie after he figured out he couldn't handle him. My friend kept him in a twelve by twenty foot kennel behind his house. Even though he gave the dog occasional exercise, on a leash, it was too late. The dog was neurotic from not running free, doing the kind of thing he was born and bred to do. And both my friend and his dad blamed the dog for his neurotic behavior, never considering that they had a complete lack of understanding of what drives a dog like that. It was a real shame.
People who live on quarter-acre lots shouldn't own a red Border Collie.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't know what I mean you shouldn't own a red Border Collie either.
