SALISBURY, Maryland - Firefighters in Maryland say an 11-year-old boy suffered minor burns after racing back into a burning apartment building to rescue his 2-year-old sister.
Let me guess; the one who says 11 is too young is less than 40 yrs old. Those who say 11 is not too young are age 60 and above.
Us four kids, each two yrs apart, would care for ourselves without any adults inside the home by the time the oldest was age 9. We were 9, 7, 5, 3. This wasn't a one time event, it was typical.
By the time the oldest was age 15, we four spent three weeks under our own care (buying groceries, making meals, cleaning, getting up to go to school, doing our homework, laundry, etc) while dad & mom took a much earned vacation. We were 15, 13, 11, 9.
When he was age 5, my youngest brother fixed the oven door so it would close. The only help he needed was to hold the door in place and to properly tighten the screws, and to bend a latch back into shape while he supervised. He said it came to him in a dream of how to make a lasting repair. The problem was the wrong sized screw was used, which he fixed by selecting the right size all by himself. Morher was very happy - and surprised - when she came back after a week visiting dad on R&R in Okinawa.
Went to college in that town, is only 30 minutes from the beach towns. Back then it was sliding into chaos due to the locals over breeding. Anymore its just another liberal shit hole, it is in the socialist state of maryland.
If this kid is willing to run into a fire to save his sister, don't try any funny business with her in the future or he might just beat your ass into a coma. This kid is HARD.
Rock On!!!
ReplyDelete11 years old is pretty young to be watching a 2 YO alone.
ReplyDeleteNo mention of adult on scene.
Shakey, but happy ending.
I was watching over infants by 9. No problems, and no anonymous nannies needed.
DeleteAn 11 yo is NOT too young to be watching a younger sister.
DeleteExactly right!
