PITTSBURGH —
Two teenagers are facing charges related to a shooting outside of a Pittsburgh church during a funeral service, leaving six people injured Friday.
Hey, Boggie! My daughter went to preschool in that church back in the early eighties before the Amish started moving into the area a bit later. I don't remember what denomination it was off the top of my head, but it certainly wasn't of the Mennonite persuasion at the time. She then did K - 8 at a Catholic School about a half block down on the other side of the street. That used to be one of the really nice parts of Pittsburgh's Northside to live. Then it became surrounded by Amish invaders after some of the nearby projects were closed. Now it's become totally infiltrated. Times sure have changed. Really glad that we got out of there 18 years ago........
Yes and no. The Amish are an offshoot of the Mennonites, who choose to go even further to ensure their Godliness. That is, they not only strictly follow the precepts of their faith, but they reinforce that faith and avoid temptation by withdrawing into a tight-knit community of their own and limiting contacts with those less strict than them. They restrict the use of anything that might be too tempting or draw them from that community.
So AFAIK, the difference is in lifestyle, not doctrine - but Amish will generally avoid becoming friends with even Mennonites to avoid too clearly seeing how a car or a cell phone could simplify their life.
It wasn't mentioned in the linked article, but other sources state the "yoots" had both been involved in previous shootings. In other breaking news, rain is wet.
One of the four totally "Blue" cities in PA. PA would be a totally different state if someone nuked those 4. (Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Harrisburg and Scranton, for those of you that don't know) You almost never see a pro Democrat sign outside of those areas.
I didn't think those Amish had migrated that far east.
ReplyDeleteHezekiah must have been out on Rumspringa 🤣
