Vietnam war - Harry Thompson’s memories of the battle at Lo Giang as the company clerk
Harry served with the company for two years as the right hand man to the First Sargent Rodriguez. Even though Harry worked in the rear area, he was friends with the whole company...and suffered when they were lost.
Damn company clerk never gets the glory. He has all the shit jobs. He is like a mother hen at times, if he is good. These nerds are so important to the unit cohesion, but they are overshadowed by the trigger pullers. Here Harry is recounting action that he did not see, only second and third hand. But he knew the names and faces of the men in A Company, cause he is their clerk. And his task is to care for them even in death. That is fucking hard. Civilians never get this close to their buddies, never. If you know, you can feel his pain as he recants his memory of that time. “Fiddlers Green”, Veterans Day 11 NOV 2022.
Didn't matter what anyones job was over there. They showed up and I respect and honor that.
