Yeah, I'd say he was definitely at risk

CHICAGO — A man once featured in a Peabody-award winning documentary series about at-risk youth in Chicago was shot to death last week on the West Side.

Keontay Hightie, 21, was on a porch in the 3800 block of West Maypole around 11:40 a.m. on June 8 when he was fatally shot during an argument, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

  2. At risk youth. Indeed he was, but old enought to buy Colt45 when the lights went out. Good Night Hightie!

  3. At risk? Let's do the math:
First name: Keontay - strike 1
    Race: Negro - strike 2
    Gender: male - strike 3
    Age: under 25 - strike 4
    Domicile: Chicago - strike 5
    Gang member - strike 6
    Drug dealer - strike 7
    Convicted felon - strike 8
Convicted felon in stolen vehicle - strike 9
Convicted felon in possession of fully automatic pistol - strike 10
Keontay would likely have lived much longer if he had been behind bars. Unfortunately (for him) Cook County prosecutors allowed him to remain free.

    Show of hands:
How many remember the character 'Koontay Kintay' from the book ROOTS?

    An aside:
Why is 'roots' [ruuts] pronounced different from 'toots' [tuhts], as in "Hey, Toots, what's the daily special?" and "Sure, Toots, you want that medium-rare?".
